Juniors' News

Return to the Helm once more! It is always a pleasure when the clocks change in Spring to be able to train on the Helm once again.

End of Winter League 2022 Presentation Day;  after a final race, not for points (just for fun!) on Winder and Arant Haw, many gathered in the People's Hall for the presentation of trophies, vouchers and chocolates to those who had placed first, second or third in their age categories, plus all juniors who completed five races in the Winter League were able to collect their 2022 Winter League T-shirt. Pictured here is the winner of a very special trophy; The Ken Shuttleworth Junior Endeavour trophy, awarded to a junior who has employed notable tenacity and perseverance ... there are always several contenders for this of course as many of our juniors have worked extremely hard to run their best in the League races - we are proud of them all.

Cross Country ...
As usual, it's been a busy cross country season for Helm juniors. Many took part in the Cumbria Athletics cross country races at the end of 2021, also the Mid-Lancs cross country series 2021/22 which saw some excellent results for members of the junior Helm-Kendal composite team as individuals in their categories and as teams in their categories (see the cross country results on Home Page of Mid Lancs League ). Many of our juniors have qualified to run at County and National level for their schools too, taking part in the English Schools Athletics Association (ESAA) cross-country championships in Kent on 19 March or selected to run in the National Primary cross country finals on 26 March.

On 12 March, some of our juniors ran for Cumbria in the Inter-Counties final at Birmingham. Results are HERE .

Well done to them all.

Our 2022 Winter League is well underway!  Results of the races can be found in the Results panel on the left-hand side of this page. Below is the U13s start line from the Winter League race 27 Feb. Great to see such a big turn out of enthusiastic young fell runners.
